Jeanette M. Van Dyke
Jeanette M. Van Dyke, 82, of Nappanee, died peacefully under hospice care at her home at 1:50 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2015.
She was born May 4, 1932, in Goshen to Charles and Ethel May (DeFriese) Bowser. She married Alva B. Van Dyke Sept. 24, 1960, in Goshen. He preceded her in death October 2, 2002.
Jeanette lived her lifetime in the Goshen and Nappanee area. She was a 1950 graduate of Goshen High School. Jeanette was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her family. Before having her children, she worked as a bookkeeper for Honeycrest Bakery in Goshen. She had also worked at Ankersons Dress Shop and Henschen Oil, both in Nappanee.
Jeanette was a member of Current Club. She was a member of Union Center Church of the Brethren where she was active in a Sunday School Class. She was a member and past president of Tri Kappa Associate Chapter, active with the Goshen Class of 1950 group, avid golfer and bowler in New Paris and Nappanee, and had played volleyball in the women’s volleyball league at the old South Side School in Nappanee. Jeanette had a great sense of humor.
Surviving are her daughters: Karen (Joe) Stichter, Wakarusa, Jane (Robert) Shevlot, Greenwood, Ann (Raymond A.) Bivans, LasVegas, Nev.; son: David Van Dyke, Nappanee; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother: Jack (Lorene)Bowser, Goshen.
She was preceded in death by a sister: Joy Marek, and brothers: Robert, LaMar, and Charles Jr. Bowser.
Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 17 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and for 1 hour prior to the Funeral Service, which will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 21 at Union Center Church of the Brethren. Rev. Frank Ramirez will officiate. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Union Center Church of the Brethren.
