Gov. Pence Opposing Stricter EPA Ozone Regulations
Indiana Governor Mike Pence has announced he will join the governors of 10 other states in opposing more protective limits proposed by the federal government for smog-forming pollution linked to asthma and respiratory illness.
The group of governors is sending a letter to the US Environmental Protection Agency regarding the stricter ozone standards. Currently, all but one of Indiana’s 92 counties meet the EPA’s ozone regulations. But Pence states that proposed new rules would harm Indiana “just as our economy appears to be turning a corner.”
Jodi Perras, the Indiana representative of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign disagrees with Pence. She states the administration’s continued opposition to stricter clean air regulations ignores the fact that “clean air standards are established to protect our health and the health of our children.”
