Buddy Holly Musical Coming To Honeywell Center
The rock and roll musical “Buddy,” based on the life of Buddy Holly, will take place in the Honeywell Center’s Ford Theater at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 29 at the Honeywell Center. “Buddy -The Buddy Holly Story” is part of the Wabash Valley Music Association series and is presented by Wellbrooke of Wabash.
“Buddy” tells the story of Buddy Holly’s rise to fame in 1957 until his death two years later. The popularity of the show is such that over 20 million people worldwide have seen this exciting live performance. The show features over 20 of Holly’s greatest hits including “That’ll Be the Day,” “Peggy Sue,” and “Oh Boy.”
Early in 1959 Buddy Holly began touring with two other well-known talents of that era, the late Ritchie Valens and Jiles Perry “J.P”. Richardson, Jr., known as “The Big Bopper,” who are also featured in this stage production. Valens was best known for his hit “La Bamba,” and The Big Bopper for “Chantilly Lace.” In February of that year, all three artists died tragically in a small plane crash following a performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa in 1959.
Buddy Holly, was an American singer, songwriter, and a pioneer of rock ‘n’ roll. His music was sophisticated for its day and his talent as lead and rhythm guitarist can be heard quite notably on songs such as “Peggy Sue” and “Not Fade Away.”
