Quissell Shows Well At State
MUNCIE – Plymouth senior Cassi Quissell performed very well in her final high school meet Saturday at the IHSAA Gymanstics State Finals held at Worthen Arena on the campus of Ball State University.
Quissell was 15th overall in the all-around, scoring a 36.4 in a very competitive and tight field of gymnasts. Quissell posted scores of 9.15 on vault, 9.15 on bars, 8.975 on beam and 9.125 on floor to make up her final all-around tally, her bars score placing the highest at 13th overall.
Locally, only two other competitors were in action at state, and both were from DeKalb. Hayley Gibson was 24th on vault with a 9.1, just behind Quissell, and Kristin Russell was 19th on bars with an 8.975. Russell was the bars champion at the Huntington North Regional a week ago.
Individual champions from the state meet included Kylee Maxwell of Morgan Township on vault with a 9.85, Ashley Holiday of Columbus North on bars at 9.6, Rushelle Miller of Valparaiso with a 9.575 on floor, and Anna Watkin of Owen Valley won both the beam (9.625) and all-around championships, her total points reaching 38.15.
Valparaiso won its second-straight state team title and sixth in the last eight years by scoring 113.1 points to outdo Fort Wayne Dwenger’s 110.925 and Columbus North’s 110.1 totals. Valparaiso has now won a state-best 11 team titles.
