Sha Na Na Bringing Rock ‘N’ Roll Classics To Honeywell
Rock ‘n’ Roll doo-wop legends “Sha Na Na” will make their way to the Ford Theater Stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25 at the Honeywell Center. This performance is part of the Wabash Valley Music Association series and is presented by Wellbrooke of Wabash.
Sha Na Na will perform songs from the hit movie “Grease” including “Greased Lightning,” “Sandy,” “Rock ‘n’ Roll is Here to Stay,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “Blue Moon,” “La Bamba,” “You’re the One That I Want” and “We Go Together.”
Sha Na Na combined their love for the classics of rock ‘n’ roll with a dynamic theatrical approach, as fellow college students at Columbia University in New York in 1969. The ‘50s music legends appeared just before Jimi Hendrix at The Woodstock Festival in their eighth professional gig (of course the check bounced). They also had four seasons of their own worldwide television series, The Sha Na Na Show, co-starred along with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in “Grease.”
Sha Na Na knows two things for sure: “Grease” is still the “Word” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll is here to stay!” They also have a close connection to “Grease” as they were cast in the movie as “Johnny Casino and the Gamblers,” performing as the group who sang at the Rydell High School hop. The Grammy-nominated “Grease” soundtrack includes the song “Sandy,” sung by John Travolta, and was co-written by Sha Na Na’s piano man Screamin’ Scott Simon.
Tickets to Sha Na Na are $25, $35 and $45 and may be purchased at the Honeywell Center Box Office, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling (260) 563-1102, or online at www.honeywellcenter.org.
