All Things New Petition Approved
All Things New, a proposed addiction treatment and rehabilitation facility for women, was granted approval by the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday in Warsaw. The facility had previously been granted approval by the BZA to build on a parcel of land in Tippecanoe Township, but later learned a parcel of land on Riverwood Ranch Road in Wayne Township near Warsaw became available.
That site was originally sought by All Things New, but was not available until more recently. Approval was granted for the Wayne Township site with the condition regular meetings are held with a community representative and also someone from the BZA. Matt Sandy, assistant planning director for the county, said the meetings are to “give the community a voice” and address any complaints or concerns. No structure was set for the meetings and they could be held monthly or as needed.
In other business, during the hearing officer portion of the agenda Monday a home based business, gun sales and service, was approved for Robert Marshall on Elm Street, south of Emeline Street in Milford. Sandy noted Marshall plans to do more repairing and smithing and not discharge guns at the site.
Other agenda items Tuesday included:
• Three petitions under the name West/Leonard were denied. The intent was to split an already tight lot into two small lots, which would have created incompatible setbacks for a proposed carriage house structure on Highland View at the intersection with CR 800E in Turkey Creek Township.
• James Plummer was granted an exception to build an oversized accessory building on CR 1200N, east of Woodland Acres Drive in Turkey Creek Township.
• David Smith was granted an exception for an oversized accessory, overflow guest quarters, on CR 1000N at the intersection with EMS D12 Lane at Dewart Lake.
• Dennise Carr was granted an exception to allow a mobile home damaged by a storm to be replaced in a non-conforming mobile home park on EMS W14A Lane at the intersection with EMS W14B Lane in Tippecanoe Township.
• Reecer Properties was granted an exception to allow a previous on premise sign to be used as an off premise sign on Main Street at the intersection with South Street in North Webster. Approval was only granted for Reecer Properties and if someone else takes over the property, they must re-petition the BZA.
• Stephen Solomon was granted a variance to allow a residence addition in a flood plain area on EMS B33A Lane in Tippecanoe Township.
• Jayne Grow was granted a variance to permit construction of residence additions on EMS T32C Lane in Plain Township.
• Special OPS K-9 Academy was granted an exception to allow dog kennel and training operations on commercial property and a variance to allow two uses on one tract (marina storage also) on the east side of SR 13, south of CR 800N in Tippecanoe Township.
• A petition by Advanced Disposal Services Hoosier Landfill to allow a main entrance to a sanitary landfill to be relocated was tabled until the May meeting. The petitioner is still evaluating the costs involved. The property is at the intersection of CR 800S and Packerton Road in Monroe Township.
• R. Eric and Amber Rush were granted a variance to allow a residence addition on EMS B33 Lane in Tippecanoe Township.
