Friends Of WCS Encourage Early Voting For Referendum
Friends of Warsaw Community Schools, a non-profit, privately funded support group for the proposed referendum to rebuild Lincoln Elementary and repair Washington Elementary and Edgewood Middle School, is urging area residents to “vote early for our kids.” Early voting will begin Monday, April 29 and will end at noon Monday, May 4.
Voting will take place at the justice building in downtown Warsaw just west of the courthouse. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday as well as from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
“Our kids can’t vote… we have to vote for them and every vote is needed… Saturday voting is especially ideal for registered college students and home for the weekend,” states representatives from the organization.
The referendum will be up-for-vote during the May 5 primary election. The referendum states: “Shall Warsaw Community Schools issue bonds or enter into a lease to finance the construction of a replacement Lincoln Elementary School, the renovation of and improvements to the Washington Elementary School and Edgewood Middle School, which is estimated to cost not more than $39,900,000 and is estimated to increase the property tax rate for debt service by a maximum of $0.138 per $100 of assessed valuation over the 20 year life of the bonds?”
Those interested in seeing the potential tax impact of the referendum may visit the Friends of Warsaw Community Schools website to utilize a tax calculator [see WCS Presents Facility Plan: The Bottom Line].
The Friends of Warsaw Community School Corporation reminds that the Hacienda Gives Back Fiesta for “Friends of Warsaw” will be held Wednesday April 22. Those who visit the restaurant and mention the organization or show a flier will be able to direct 20 percent of their purchase to the campaign efforts, which are entirely privately-funded.
