John Allen Schenck
John Allen Schenck, 75, of rural South Whitley, died Monday, April 15, 2015, at his home.
He was born April 24, 1939, in Marion County, a son of the late Leonard and Edith (Jones) Schenck. He began his elementary education in Speedway. The family then moved to Michigan where he graduated from Owosso High School.
He served with the U.S. Army. For over 30 years he worked with General Electric, Fort Wayne, in the manufacturing engineering department. He retired in 1998.
Since 2000, he has lived at his home in rural South Whitley. He enjoyed hunting and fishing both locally and in the mountain states. An accomplished gardener, he loved both flower and vegetable gardening. In more recent years, he had begun beekeeping.
He is survived by his two sisters, Linda Wentzel, Phoenix, Ariz., and Marilyn (Jim) Hunt, Henrico, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Kay Becher.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 20, at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, New Haven. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial are to the donor’s choice.
