Lapsit
Join staff for the third week of lapsit. Our theme is bugs. Come listen to books, songs and fingerplays about bugs. We will sing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” and read “Bugs! Bugs! Bugs!” by Bob Bamer. Lapsit is at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.
After School is Cool
Join staff for a movie day. Annie, a young happy foster kid, was left by her parents as a baby with the promise they’d be back for her someday. Life has not been easy with her mean foster mom. Her life changes when a business tycoon and New York mayoral candidate makes a campaign move and takes Annie in. He believes that he is her guardian angel, but her self-assured nature and bright outlook on life may just mean it’s the other way around. The movie is 118 minutes long. We will provide snacks and refreshments. The movie will start at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.
Spring Story Time
Join spring story time at 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, or 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, to celebrate Earth Day. Listen to “Ants in Your Pants, Worms in Your Plants (Gilbert Goes Green)” by Diane deGroat, and “It’s Earth Day” by Mercer Mayer. After listening to stories, we will make binoculars out of toilet paper rolls and paper. Lots of fun crafts can be made from recycled materials. After making the craft, we will enjoy a snack of green rice krispie treats. See you there for Earth Day fun.
Classical Guitar Music in the Library
Enjoy listening to classical guitar? Scott Workman, a graduate student at IU South Bend, will be at the library performing for us as part of practice for his masters recital. Workman is completing his masters degree in classical guitar performance in May. This performance is being done in preparation for his master recital at IUSB on Monday, April 27. His recital will take place in the teen area of the library from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 23. Music lovers will not want to miss this opportunity to hear beautiful selections live. If you are interested in learning to play guitar, the library does offer instructional DVD’s for learning to play acoustic and electric guitars.
Nutritional Program
The next nutrition program is planned for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30. This month’s topic is “Honey, how Sweet it is.” Is honey all the same? When baking, do you use honey or sugar? Stephanie Faroh, Purdue extension educator, will demonstrate some recipes using honey and bring other information about types of honey. Raw honey is said to have many healing properties. We will have door prizes to give away after the program. There will be a sign up sheet available on Thursday, April 23, at the adult circulation desk.
