Fresh Air And A Fresh Outlook
I recently spent an entire day working outside on our flower beds. I wanted it to be a surprise for my wife. I dug out all the weeds, junk and old wood chips I could. Then I put in fresh, bright wood chips. I literally was just cleaning up everything when she pulled in, so the surprise was a success! It made a huge change in the way things looked.
I ran into some friends at a local restaurant later that evening who were doing similar things. We talked about how spring is the greatest time for change. We have all been waiting impatiently to get outside and do just about anything. Being out in the fresh air certainly brings a fresh outlook.
As I was out hoeing and then digging on my hands and knees, I started to think about how spring, as a season, can affect our thoughts. These thoughts are not limited to just those special projects we need to do outside, but thoughts about change in our lives. Spring really does play a major role in how we look at our lives.
It is a proven fact that winter can have an adverse effect on our attitude. We can become grumpy, or at least feel the winter time blues so to speak. When there is limited sun and continually cold weather it really does make a difference in how we look at life.
Spring sunshine and warm weather have the complete opposite effect on our attitudes. We go from the winter blues to almost a euphoric outlook on life. We smile more, we are more physically active and we spend more time with our friends and neighbors. We start to make many changes in our activities and habits now that spring is here. This leads to thoughts of what else in our lives can we change.
Aside from normal changes we make during spring what changes are on your mind? You may be thinking about changing the flower bed, the garden, or the driveway. However, what other changes are you thinking about? Are you thinking about a new job, career or business? Are you considering making new friends, or making your personal relationships more of a priority in your life? Are you considering making changes to your health, by diet and exercise?
Spring, is a wonderful time to make some necessary changes. As I said earlier, we all seem to have a more positive attitude about life now that spring is here. When we have a better attitude about life it helps us make better choices and set better priorities. When I meet with clients I encourage them to not make major life decisions in a time of turmoil.
We all certainly need to make choices and possibly changes during rough times. The key is to try to limit the major choices and changes until your attitude about life is one of a positive nature. Since spring is here and you are most likely looking at life as the glass half full instead of half empty, what changes would you like to make? Now is a great time to spring into action!
