Five Warsaw High School students spent two hours of their time with residents from Miller’s Merry Manor on Friday afternoon. Some painted residents’ fingernails, while others landscaped in the courtyard and learned how to garden with Earl, one of the residents.
Blitz is a community service group through the student council at the High School. According to Neema Patel, Warsaw High School student, the Blitz committee volunteers at soup kitchens, rings the bell at Christmas for the Salvation Army and is in charge of the Prom. They have also set up a coffee house at the school. Patel stated that one of their big fundraisers is for Riley’s Children’s Hospital.
Brooklyn Rummer, Warsaw High School student, stated “We just want to get out into the community and help out”. Jeryl Leamon, High School Faculty, accompanied the girls at the facility during their time volunteering. The residents enjoyed the time they were able to spend with the Blitz students.
Silva Deeter, Miller’s resident, stated “I really enjoyed having them paint my nails and share stories with me”. The students stated that one of their favorite activities at Miller’s was learning things about gardening from Earl Davis. Davis has an area in the Courtyard that he enjoys planting vegetables. Tomatoes are his favorite and he shares them with other residents. Davis stated “I hope they were able to learn how to plant their own gardens. They were really interested in learning.”
