Area Sports Personalities To Introduce Zolman
Two area sports personalities will play key roles in introducing former Wawasee High School and University of Tennessee basketball star Shanna Zolman during her Homecoming tribute at the North Webster Community Center gym, a North Webster Community Center fundraiser at which a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
Roger Grossman, sports director for Warsaw’s Lake City Media Group, who covered the former “Miss Basketball” and all-time Hoosier scoring leader in her high school years prior to her run at Tennessee and the WNBA, will address Zolman’s place in Hoosier State sports history.
Dean Huppert, sports director a South Bend television station, has contributed a short touching video regarding the role that Zolman, now an executive with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Washington State, played in raising the bar for area athletics.
Meanwhile, Wawasee High School Girls Basketball Coach Kem Zolman, Shanna’s father and coach of Wawasee girls’ basketball for the past 18 years, will provide a personal introduction.
“Over and above everything else, including our drive to adequately fund the North Webster Community Center,” says NWCC President Dennis Wagoner, owner/operator of Ace Hardware of North Webster, “we invited Shanna here this week for an evening’s visit at the NWCC from her home in the Seattle area to remind us all of the positive role models that exist for our area youth at a time when inspiring role models could really come into play.”
The doors open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 2. Autographs and desserts are to follow in the banquet hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and children, and are available at the NWCC’s office, located at 301 N. Main St., Wawasee High School, North Webster Ace Hardware, New Market and online at eventbrite.com.
