Gas Prices Rise Throughout State, Local Average Low
Though Indiana has boasted uncharacteristically low gas prices over the last few months, drivers are expected to see a rise in gas prices. Prices are making a small jump today with prices up 1.4 cents from yesterday, 2.5 cents from last week and 6.4 cents from last month.
Though prices are marginally higher than a month ago, an overall look at gas trends reveals Indiana has seen lower rates this year than typical. GasBuddy.com reports that Indiana is currently ranked as the 21st least expensive state. The current, live-ticking average is $2.41, nearly $1.28 less than last year’s average.
Over the past year, though gas trends followed a similar schedule to last year’s rises and falls initially, in September prices began to drop dramatically from the past two year’s prices. Gas prices dropped from an average of $3.413 per gallon in September 2014 to $3.118 in October; and to $2.874 in November. A dramatic drop in prices occurred in both December and in January, with prices plummeting from $2.370 in December to $2.011 in January.
Though prices have been on the rise for Hoosiers, Kosciusko County residents are in luck. The county is ranked among 18 other states for the lowest gas average in the state. Currently, Kosciusko’s average gas rate is set at $2.414, though several counties surrounding have not been as fortunate. Fulton, Wabash and Whitley counties are all amongst the most expensive in terms of gas averages in the state at this time. Fulton County’s average gas rate is $2.552; Wabash County’s average is $2.495; and Whitley County’s average is $2.501.
