Emma Marie (Barkman) Yoder, age 87, of LaGrange, passed away at 7:35 a.m. Thursday, April 30, at home. She was born on March 25, 1928 to Samuel and Lena (Plank) Barkman in Hicksville, Ohio. On Oct. 22, 1946 Emma married Jacob J. Yoder. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by seven sons: Alvin (Miriam) Yoder, Shipshewana; Freeman (Susie) Yoder, Middlebury; Amos Jay (Rachel) Yoder, LaGrange; Martin (Mary) Yoder, Middlebury; Harvey (Rachel) Yoder, Ligonier; Jacob Jr. (Barbara) Yoder, LaGrange, and Paul (Rosella) Yoder, Ligonier; four daughters and one daughter-in-law: Esther (Samuel) Yoder, Shipshewana; Margaret (Jonas) Yoder, Millersburg; LeAnna (Crist) Miller, Topeka; Rosetta (Jerry) Miller, LaGrange; and (Sam) Arlene Yoder, Wolcottville; 72 grandchildren; 228 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; three brothers: Monroe Barkman, Topeka; Enos Barkman, Middlefield, Ohio; Melvin Barkman, Goshen; and one sister: Mary Kathryn (Gilbert Lee) Miller, Nappanee; one sister-in-law: Miriam Bontrager, Wolcottville.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents: Husband: Jacob J. Yoder; daughter: Magdalena Yoder; son: Samuel Yoder; five grandchildren: Anthony; Joel; Leon; Heidi Ann; and Jami; and one great-grandson, Luke Jon.

There will be a funeral service held in Mrs. Yoder’s honor at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 3, at Jacob Jr. Yoder residence, 3005 W. 100 N., LaGrange, with Bishop Wilbur Bontrager and the Home Ministers officiating. Burial will be in Mast Cemetery, LaGrange.

A time of visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, May 1, and all day Saturday at Jacob Jr. Yoder residence.
