Grover Henry Shidler
Grover Henry Shidler, 84, of Star City passed away at 5 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2015, at Pulaski Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 5, 1930, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Grover Merl and Dora Esther (Spencer) Shidler.
On April 30, 1960, he married Doris Marie Banta.
Grover was a Star City High School graduate where he played baseball and basketball.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving aboard the battleship USS New Jersey during the Korean War.
Grover retired from Gencorp after 42 years where he worked as a receiving supervisor. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed gardening and bowling. Grover bowled on many leagues through the years.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Doris M. Shidler of Star City; children, Jackie Baker (John) of Winamac and Veronica Applegate (Richard) of Warsaw; stepchildren, Richard Schoenradt (Annette) of Waco, Texas, David Schoenradt (Debbie) of Greentown and Diana Tocco (Willie Ho) of Holiday, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Helen Abell (Gary) and Mary Ruth Lewis, both of Kokomo;
He was also preceded in death by stepson, Stephen Schoenradt; sister, Charlotte Lewis; and brother, Jim Shidler.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel with Pastor Tom Woodley officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, at the funeral home.
Burial with Military Rites performed will be at Buck Cemetery in Thornhope.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion and/or the Pulaski County Humane Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center.
