On Wednesday, April 29, Lemonade Day and Junior Achievement Serving Elkhart County hosted a breakfast to honor volunteers, celebrate the organization’s recent successes and shed some light on additional expansion during the school year.
The event was held in the Crystal Ballroom at The Lerner Theatre in Elkhart. Tom Townsley, author of “Three Cups” which teaches principles of saving a little, spending a little and giving little to charity, was the featured guest speaker. The event was free to the public.
Lemonade Day encourages youth to build a lemonade stand, sell lemonade and give to charity. This year’s event is set for Saturday, May 2, throughout Elkhart County. There are more than 300 locations registered.
Last year, there were 287 lemonade stands throughout Elkhart County, which included over 800 engaged youth and the help of 50 adult volunteers.
There are seven school corporations committed to utilizing the lessons and teaching methods provided by JA and Lemonade Day. Next school year, Superintendent Steve Thalheimer has pledged to incorporate JA throughout Fairfield Community Schools because of the need in addition to traditional education.
