Kingsmen Navigate Rain, Warriors At TLCC
LEESBURG – The only high school outdoor match Monday happened at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, where the Penn Kingsmen boys golf team was up to the task. Shooting a 161, the Kingsmen defeated both Wawasee (165) and LaVille (186) in the non-conference triangular.
Penn’s Joe Hickey led the group with a 38, the only golfer under 40 at the damp country club on the banks of Tippecanoe Lake. Hickey’s card was key as Wawasee matched Penn’s other three scores, but not the medalist’s effort. Nick Thorin had a 40, Blake Harman a 41 and Ryan Walsh a 42 for Penn’s allotment.
Wawasee had the 40, 41 and 42 from Maclain Herr, Jeffrey Moore and Tristen Atwood, but Kaleb Perry’s 42 and Cal Heinisch’s 43 couldn’t make up the difference.
Michael Butler paced LaVille with a 41, but the Lancers fell off pace with two 47s from Dakota Figg and Tyler Thomas and two 51s Kyle Schafer and Dustin Royer.
Penn had no problems winning the JV dual with Wawasee, 162-182. Zach Hale paced the JV golfers with a 38, matched by teammate Ben Szklarek’s total to highlight the Kingsmen juniors. Mason Germonprez led Wawasee with a 43.
Wawasee, in suffering its first dual loss of the season, settle at 8-1 overall ahead of the Northern Lakes Conference round robin, which begins tonight at Maplecrest with host Goshen and Northridge.
