Long Hired As Goshen Swim Coach
GOSHEN – Nate Long was recently hired as the head boys and girls swimming and diving coach at Goshen High School.
Long is a Warsaw Community High School graduate (2005) who was a four-year letter winner in boys swimming where he excelled in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles as well as the 200 and 400 free relays. He was an All-American (2004) and received the Mental Attitude Award for swimming.
After his career at Warsaw, Long attended Auburn University (2005-2007) where he competed for the men’s swim team in the 50, 100, 200, and 500 freestyles. He also competed in the 200 individual medley, 100 and 200 breaststroke, 100 and 200 butterfly, and 100 backstroke events.
Long then attended Grace College (2008-2011) to finish his academic career.
Returning to his alma mater, Long was the head swim coach at Warsaw from 2011-14. While there, his successful programs jointly won four sectional titles and his swimmers set three school and four sectional records. His overall record while at Warsaw was 25-17 (girls) and 42-6 (boys) and he was named Northern Lakes Conference Coach of the Year in 2012.
In addition to the local success, Long had three teams accumulate state finals points while at Warsaw including 26th place (girls, 2013), 33rd place (boys, 2013), and 54th place (boys, 2012) and a host of swimmers competed in the state finals.
Long was an assistant swim coach this past season at Goshen High School under coach Chris Oleksiak and was also the middle school swim coach at Goshen. This past year, he trained a girls state qualifier, an All-Conference female athlete and two All-Conference Honorable Mentions. He also trained two All-Conference Honorable Mention male athletes as well as two school record holders.
Long is currently an eighth grade science teacher at Goshen Middle School. He and his wife, Rebekah, have two children, Paul and Rachel.
