Golson Headed To Florida State
Former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson is headed to the Sunshine State.
Golson announced today that he will play his final season at Florida State.
Golson, who graduated from Notre Dame on Sunday, announced his intention to transfer on May 7 after competing in spring drills with Malik Zaire for the starting spot for the Irish.
Golson was also reportedly considering Alabama, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina among his schools for his final year of eligibility.
Golson and the Irish, ranked No. 5 at the time, lost 31-27 to No. 2 Florida State last fall. Golson threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions in the contest in Tallahassee.
Notre Dame started last season 6-0 before a slew of turnovers by Golson contributed to a poor final half of the season. Golson was benched in the regular-season finale with USC and shared playing time with Zaire in a 31-28 win over LSA in the Music City Bowl in December. The Irish finished the 2014 season at 8-5.
Golson led the Irish to a 12-1 mark during the 2012 season, which ended with a 42-14 loss to Alabama in the national title game. He went 17-6 as a starter in his career in South Bend, while missing the 2013 season due to an academic violation. Golson passed for 5,850 yards and 41 touchdowns and rushed for 581 yards and 14 touchdowns, while throwing 20 interceptions.
Golson, a native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is expected to compete with redshirt junior Sean Maguire as the starter for the Seminoles. The pair will be looking to replace Jameis Winston, the former Heisman Trophy winner, who lost just one game in his two seasons as a starter for FSU and was the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Maguire started one game last season when Winston was suspended.
