Noblesville Man’s Sign Causing Controversy In Neighborhood
A Noblesville man is causing controversy with a yard sign he created advertising firewood for sale. It reads “I love Mexican people but they do not belong in the U.S. No Mexicans on my property. C.J. Spence.”
Spence says he has had problems in the past with a Mexican leaf cleaning crew that dumped all their leaves on his property and he’s caught people he says were Mexicans fishing in his yard without permission.
“I thought I need to send them a message,” said Spence. “I love people and I enjoy people coming around.”
Some neighbors and drivers in the area feel the sign goes too far. Others say Spence is kind and helps others.
“I have to drive by this – my kids have to drive by this every day,” said Syreeta Bravo, a Mexican-American who has lived in the area for 30 years. “This is ridiculous. How do you explain that to your kids? You don’t, you can’t.”
When her daughter Pilar saw the sign and asked if it was a joke, she said she didn’t think so.
Spence said that other people have complimented him on the sign and that it’s not coming down.
