Earnest A. Mumford
Earnest A. Mumford, 88, Silver Lake, died at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, in his home.
He was born April 16, 1927, in Brookville, Pa., to Lewis and Rachel L. (Reed) Mumford.
He married Ruby D. Nelson, Aug. 18, 1946, in Silver Lake. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2003.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Norton Sound in the South Pacific. Cox Swain Earnest Alexander Mumford was honorably discharged
June 4, 1946.
He has lived in Kosciusko County since 1947 and was owner and operator of Mumford Plumbing and Heating of Silver Lake and Claypool for 47 years.
His first love was wife, Ruby, second was fishing. He enjoyed the plumbing business and gardening. He was past commander and life member of Silver Lake American Legion Post No. 141 and like using his chain saw.
He is survived by two sons: Ernest Alan “Skip” Mumford, Silver Lake and Edward Dean Mumford, Claypool; a daughter: Connie Long, Warsaw; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, two brothers: Grant Mumford, May 15, 2012 and Wayne Mumford; and sister: Helen Rhoades.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake. Pastor Butch Troke of the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church will officiate. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post No. 49 and VFW Post No. 1126.
