Run for Others Set For June In Winona Lake
By DOUG KOONTZ
The sixth annual Blackburn Run for Others is set to start at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 13, from the Trailhouse in the Village at Winona. The Trailhouse is located at 1001 East Canal St., Winona Lake.
The race, which follows the Lake City Greenway to Roy Street and back, has been moved to Saturday morning in order to partner again with the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival. The race will kick off that day’s activities in Winona Lake. (The festival runs June 5 to June 20 in Kosciusko County.)
The race has been renamed in memory of its founder and first director, Jeremy Blackburn, who lost his battle with cancer in February. “I felt it was important to carry on the legacy Jeremy started and his desire to provide clean water to Central Africans,” said new race director Doug Koontz.
Proceeds from the race will continue to support Water for Good, a nonprofit organization dedicated to solving the water crisis in the Central African Republic. Last year, the race raised more than $5,000 to provide clean water for the villagers.
Gold level sponsors this year are MudLove, Wildman Business Group, Miller Cattle Company and Silveus Insurance Group.
Register for the race at waterforgood.org/blackburn or stop by MudLove, 122 South Buffalo St., Warsaw, or Belove, 804 Park Ave. in the Village at Winona. Preregistration with a guaranteed T-shirt is due by May 29.
