Man Steals Money In Restroom, Arrested
A Michigan man is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on theft charges and $2,000 surety bond, after stealing money from a waiter, while in the restroom.
William Jose Rodriguez, 29, 3163 S. Shephard, Mount Pleasant, Mich., was arrested and booked at 1:41 a.m. after he was found at Deluxe Inn, East Center Street, Warsaw. A second individual with Rodriguez, who was not involved in the theft, John Milton Crews, 30, 1024 Chipewa St., Grafton, Ohio, was found to be wanted on two out-of-state warrants.
Crews was wanted on an active parole violation warrant out of Arkansas and an embezzlement warrant out of Michigan. Arkansas would extradite Crews.
Warsaw Police Lt. Kip Shuter, public information officer, states the victim was in the men’s restroom at Bennigan’s and had placed the server’s book on the piping of the urinal when Rodriguez walked in and snatched the book. The bi-fold book contained the server’s tips and credit card receipts.
The victim chased Rodriguez to the Deluxe Inn. But when Rodriguez turned around and began an aggressive stance, the victim went back to Bennigan’s and informed his manager what had occurred.
Police were given a description of the suspect. Officers located a truck on the west side of the inn, backed in front of Room 110, with two chairs outside the room. While no occupants were found in Room 110, police did locate two individuals in Room 108. The victim identified Rodriguez.
Executing a search warrant, police found what they believe to be the cash stolen from the server in the bathroom exhaust fan. A metal smoking device was found inside the truck.
