Mentone Egg Festival Held This Weekend
The annual Mentone Egg Festival will kick-off this Thursday, offering a variety of entertainment, games, food as well as a parade for guests.
The three-day festival will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 4, with the opening of flea markets, crafts, food vendors and the kids’ area uptown. At 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs, formerly Spike and the bulldogs, will make an appearance in memory of Russell and Leona Eber at the fire station.
Friday the fun will continue at 11 a.m. with the opening of the Bell Museum Bellburgers and more. At 4 p.m. kiddie rides will open until 9 p.m. uptown. Flea markets, crafts and food vendors will also be available from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The 22nd annual Egg Festival car show will take place at 4 p.m. Friday, with showings of trucks, tractors and motorcycles. Music and a silent auction will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with music from the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Saturday, activities will begin early in the morning with the annual Fireman’s Pancake and Sausage Breakfast. Breakfast will be available from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Those looking to be active may take place that the Egg City 5k Run at 8 a.m. Rides, flea markets, crafts and food stations will open back up at 9 a.m. Three on three basketball with Bill Patrick will begin at 9 a.m. as well.
At 10 a.m. parade entries will be judge at the parade line-up site on the west end of town on SR 25. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. with the theme, “there is no place like home.”
Other events going on in the morning include registration for the corn hole tournament at 10 a.m. with the games beginning at 11 a.m. at the fire station; sandwiches and pies supplied by the Mentone United Methodist Church; and the weigh in for the garden pull at 11 a.m., followed by the event at 12 p.m. in the park.
Those missing an early morning chance for basketball will have another opportunity to join a three on three game at 12 p.m. in the Mentone gym.
The stage will open up at 12:30 p.m. with the Miss Chick and Mr. Rooster contest. Kids’ games will take place at 1 p.m. with the kiddie tractor pull at 1:30 p.m. An egg toss will also take place at the stage at 2:30 p.m.
Events will continue into the evening with the Sentimental Journey Band performing at 6 p.m. at the fire station. A cake walk will take place at 7 p.m. at the station with the winners of the cute baby contest announced at 7:30 p.m. Miss Mentone will receive her crown at 7:30 p.m. at the fire station with a variety show taking place at 7:45 p.m. as well.
The Mentone Chamber of Commerce reminds the sale of alcohol will not be part of the Egg Festival.
