Aging and In-Home Services of Northeast Indiana, the Area III Area Agency on Aging, announces Joan Lunden, Author/Co-Host,“Good Morning America,“ will be the featured speaker at their 40th Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony to be held noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 28 at The Parkview Mirror Center for Research and Innovation.
Luncheon tickets are $25 ($35 after June 30) and can be purchased by calling AIHS, (260) 745-1200, extension 226.
This year, the event is in celebration of AIHS 40 years of service in Northeast Indiana. According to Connie Benton Wolfe, president and CEO, AIHS, The annual meeting is our once-a-year opportunity to bring together members of our service area all nine counties for the specific purpose of celebrating our significant partners in accomplishing our mission to promote independence for all older adults and persons with disabilities.
We will take this opportunity to look back at our four decades of service and forward to the future of aging-in-place. Benton Wolfe continues, we are thrilled to have Joan Lunden join us for this significant anniversary especially as it coincides with the release of her memoir.
Joan Lunden will share her experience of caregiving for seven children as well as her 93-year-old mother who suffered from dementia. From her real-life experience, Lunden has a strong passion for family and elder caregiving.
She is the spokesperson for the nations leading senior referral service, A Place for Mom; and has authored a forthcoming biography “Had I Known: A Memoir of Survival” (due Sept. 22), chronicling her battle with triple-negative breast cancer, which required chemotherapy, surgery and radiation.
Since then, she has shared her journey through cancer treatment with the world, becoming a prominent voice in the breast cancer community. An eternal optimist, Lunden decided to take her diagnosis and turn it into an opportunity to help demystify cancer treatment. With the launch of “ALIVE with Joan Lunden,” a 24/7 channel dedicated to breast cancer and overall women’s health, Lunden hopes to create a vibrant community for all women affected by breast cancer, their family and friends.
The event is underwritten by sponsorships from Parkview Ortho Hospital, American Senior Communities and their nine area properties (Avalon Village, Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Centre, Bethlehem Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation, Betz Nursing Home, Coventry Meadows, Glenbrook Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, Heritage Park, Markle Health and Rehabilitation and Summit City Nursing & Rehabilitation); Dale, Huffman and Babcock; Sunshine Home Health; Beers Mallers Backs and Salin; United Healthcare; Sweetwater; Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield; Bateman Senior Meals; Byron Health Center; Angel Corps & Home Nursing Services; Help at Home; MKM Architecture + Design; Offset One, Inc.
