A Visual Art We Call Photography

In the days of famous photographer Ansel Adams the results of his work began the transformation of photography from a simple mechanical and chemical process into a thoughtful creation of art. Adams’ work involved much thought toward the composition, values and general appeal of his creations.
Today his work is considered worthy to display in museums and galleries worldwide. We still find the “point and click” variety of photography but it does not often win many awards except in the case of happy accidents.
What has developed successfully today in the field of photography are carefully crafted prints using many of the basic principles of art. Most of these are produced with elaborate 35mm cameras with a plethora of lenses or the newest evolution of digital camera that continues to make tremendous advancements in producing good prints.
Two relative newcomers to the competitive arena of photography are exhibiting in our county this month. We discussed Rusty Martinez last week and you can find his work at the Warsaw City Hall.
This week we are inviting you to visit the Lakeland Art Gallery in Pierceton to see the photography and wizardry of Arturo Yanez. This work will be available during the month of June and an artist reception was held on his behalf on Sunday June 7 at the gallery. You can visit this extraordinary photography from Wednesdays through Saturdays at the hours of 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Yanez says, “I try to capture beauty in the landscape that often goes unnoticed by those who aren’t looking for it.” Yanez has lived in the North Manchester area of Kosciusko County for eight years and much of his photography reflects his love of this section of Indiana landscape. “I will often visit the same place multiple times, hoping the weather and lighting will match the vision in my mind of the image I want to capture,” he says.
Other times, Yanez scouts the area backroads and highways hoping a scene worthy of capture will catch his eye. When he sees something of interest, he finds a place to stop the car, grab his equipment and go to work.
All photographers as well as art-lovers are welcome to attend the interesting program Yanez will be offering to the public at the Lakeland Art Gallery on June 22 at 7 p.m. These popular hour long programs are given through LAA for free to the public and include an opportunity to meet fellow art lovers and share the complimentary refreshments that are always included.
