KBOR Award Scholarships To Local Students
The Kosciusko Board of REALTORS® is pleased to announce the selection of their 2015 Scholarship winners; Jada Antonides, Vicki Harris and Emma Lemon, all recipients of a $1,000 scholarship award.
Twenty-nine applications were received from Kosciusko County high school seniors and Kosciusko County students currently enrolled in college. The awards are based on scholastic achievement, school activities, community commitment and need. The selection committee reported each applicant had outstanding qualities and it was a very difficult decision.
Since its inception, the Kosciusko Board of REALTORS® has awarded $66,000 in scholarships since 1993. REALTORS® understand the need to invest in the future of our local children as it is a direct investment in our community. The Kosciusko Board of REALTORS® commends these individuals on the pathway to excellence on which they are about to embark.
Jada Antonides
Antonides will be graduating from Wawasee High School and attending Indiana Wesleyan University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
During her high school career, Jada was very involved in the Wawasee High School Warrior Leadership Committee, athletics and National Honor Society. In addition, she serves on the North Webster Church of God Student Leadership Team. M
ike Schmidt, principal, Wawasee High School, shared with the selection committee Jada’s involvement in developing and operating a project called Heat Up the Night. As part of her leadership they were able to collect a total of $1,350 in donations from the business sector. The donation was provided to local utility companies to help pay utility expenses for senior citizens on fixed incomes and for those who were recently unemployed.
Principal Schmidt had this to say about Jada, “She works hard to be a leader and to involve other students in learning. She cares for her community as she has been involved in providing time and effort for others.” Jada’s proud parents are Brian and Teresa Antonides of Syracuse.
Vicki Harris
Harris will also be attending Indiana Wesleyan University pursuing bachelor’s degree in nursing after graduating from Warsaw Community High School. Her ultimate dream is to travel to a third-world country and participate in medical clinic mission trips.
Her community service and extra-curricular activities include being a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, working with her church youth group, Habitat for Humanity and her high school service group, Octagon Club. She was also a member of the Basketball and Track teams and was named to the All-Tourney Basketball team and chosen as captain by her teammates.
Vicki has already begun her college career by enrolling in courses at Ivy Tech. In her first semester, she successfully completed her clinical rotation and passed the Certified Nursing Assistant state exam, thus earning her CNA license.
Per Megan Dinse, College Work-Based Learning Instructor, Warsaw Area Career Center, “Not only is Vicki very successful in her academics, she is friendly, kind and has demonstrated maturity and responsibility. She has represented herself as a respectful young adult in the community.” Vicki’s parents are Robert and Leona Harris, Warsaw.
Emma Lemon
Lemon is the daughter of Doug and Nikki Lemon, Warsaw. After graduation from Warsaw Community High School, Emma plans on attending Richmond American International University in London, England. She hopes to earn a bachelor’s degree in international relations in London then return to Indiana to obtain a law degree and ultimately practice law in our community.
She has been very involved in numerous school and community activities including the position of president of her 4-H Club, a member of the Cross Country Team and the Oak Grove Community Church’s Worship Team.
In her letter of recommendation, Donna VanKirk shared the following with the selection committee, “We have watched Emma excel musically, artistically, creatively and academically. Emma demonstrates a love of learning and the level of commitment necessary to succeed at college and beyond.”
