Broadview Networks, a communications provider for small businesses on the east coast, has used data from the research firm Hoover’s to create a map of the companies with the most revenue in each state in the last fiscal year.
Banks, automakers and large-scale retailers were among those at the top. The three with the biggest revenues were Walmart with $485.7 billion in Arkansas, Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores with $426.09 billion in Oklahoma and Exxon Mobile with $411.9 billion in Texas.
One might ask “Where are Apple and Microsoft?” According to Broadview, the map specifically looks at total revenue from the last fiscal year. There can be somewhat of a discrepancy between market value and total revenues. Apple’s market value as of March 31, 2015, was $724 billion while Chevron’s was $197 billion. However, strictly in terms of revenue, Chevron topped Apple with $203 billion in comparison to $182 billion respectively.
The locations for the companies on the list are based on the site of each corporate headquarters. Subsidiaries and government entities were not included for the sake of consistency.
A table with the company names, states, revenues and a comparison between 2014 and 2015 can be found on Broadview’s website.
