TinCaps Celebrate Fort Wayne Night With Win
FORT WAYNE – On Celebrate Fort Wayne Night at Parkview Field, the TinCaps gave their home fans something extra to cheer about: a 4-2 win over the Kane County Cougars Wednesday night.
Third baseman Chase Jensen‘s three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning erased a 2-0 deficit and put Fort Wayne in front for good. Jensen’s homer — his second of the season — off Brad Keller (L, 2-7) plated first baseman Trae Santos, who had singled, and right fielder Franmil Reyes, who had doubled.
Left fielder Nick Torres provided the TinCaps with a little cushion in the fifth when he hit a sacrifice fly to score Ruddy Giron. The shortstop had a lead-off single and advanced to third base on a single by designated hitter Franchy Cordero.
Kane County (30-29) initially took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer off the bat of catcher Stryker Trahan. It was his 11th homer of the year — second most in the Midwest League.
Fort Wayne (24-33) received a solid start from Dinelson Lamet (W, 2-3) and strong relief from left-hander Kyle McGrath and Colby Blueberg (S, 5). Lamet went the first 5 innings, while McGrath came in for 2 2/3, and Blueberg recorded the final four outs.
The TinCaps wore special jerseys on Wednesday (raffled off for fans to win after the game) that read “Fort Wayne” across the chest and featured Summit City icons like The Embassy Theatre and Allen County Courthouse. The jerseys also were designed to include a map of Downtown Fort Wayne.
Meanwhile, fans were treated to a spectacular sunset, which then gave way to some stormy clouds and many a bolt of lightning.
The middle game of this three-game set is scheduled for Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The TinCaps are in line to start Michael Kelly (2-0, 3.38) against Markus Solbach (5-2, 2.60). The game can be seen on Comcast Network 81 and heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app.
