Wednesdays are busy as children are able to come all day and read to one of our volunteers. Pump up muscles with a superhero training camp at tea time, 2 p.m., Thursdays, June 18. Friday is a movie on the big screen about a fanciful forest turned upside down. The movie starts at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, and there is popcorn.
Young people who are going into sixth-grade through high school, are exploring air pressure with Jim Myers at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 17. Teens have an hour of making special effects much like Agent Q in James Bond movies.
All programs at the library are free and offered to any interested persons. No library card is required to join in the weekly activities this summer.
An Evening of Music
The guitar and vocal duo Scott and Terry, are playing in the newly remodeled adult department at the Syracuse Library on Friday, June 19. The Friday night event is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Library. The evening is free to Friends members and $3 for others. The after hours event is open from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and is the conclusion of the silent auction of the paintings and artwork on display at the library. Proceeds that the friends raise are used for programs and needs in the library.
Readers are Heroes
Children and young adults have opportunities to be rewarded for their reading this summer with “Every Hero has a Story” and “Creating the Hero” Summer Reading Programs. Children get to play an easy reading game while earning library dollars to spend on each of the seven weeks of reading. Four weeks of reading allows children and parents to ride the bus to a day at the Fort Wayne Zoo.
Children whose parents are not able to go to the zoo can still attend with a staff member. Young adults that read 1,000 pages this summer get to choose a book that the library orders special for them. All credited material is checked out from the Syracuse Public Library.
