Nation’s Third Oldest Ballpark Turns 100 Today In Evansville
Bosse Field in Evansville turns 100 years old today. It is the third oldest continuously-running ballpark in the United States after Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Bosse is currently home to the Evansville Otters baseball team, which is part of the Pioneer League and has played home games at the field since 1995. It was host to the Great Lakes Valley Conference college baseball tournament in 2013 and 2014.
Named for former Evansville mayor Benjamin Bosse, the stadium still bears some of the artwork painted on the inside during the filming of the movie “A League of Their Own” in 1991.
Many professional teams have called Bosse Field home. Prior to the Otters, the longest tenants were the Evansville Triplets, who won three American Association titles in the 1970s. It was also home to the Evansville Crimson Giants, early members of the National Football League, in 1921 and 1922.
