Board Of Works Approves Contracts, Purchases And Agreements
Warsaw Board of Works and Public Safety had a lengthy list of new business to go through early Friday afternoon.
One big announcement came at the end of the meeting. Warsaw Police Chief, Scott Whitaker, announced Bret Richardson, of the Warsaw Police Department, is retiring. Friday was his last day on the force. Richardson served on the Warsaw Police Department for more than 31 years. He has been a patrol commander, and for the last nine years, the operations lieutenant.
Board members approved a few street closings in the upcoming weeks:
Main Street, between Maple Avenue and Bronson Street will be closed all day Monday, June 22, and Tuesday, June 23. The area will be used to film a movie.
Main Street between Lake and Buffalo streets; Buffalo Street between Center and Main streets; and Center Street between Lake and Buffalo streets; will be closed from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14. The block will be used for the BPA world series parade and ceremony.
Main Street between Detroit and Indiana streets will be closed for the Zimmer Biomet Celebration, with a specific date yet to be determined. A definitive date and time will be decided between June 22 and July 3.
During other business:
- Approved the CDBG Grant Sub-Recipient Agreement.
- The Warsaw Wastewater Payment Office was granted permission to write off a balance of $152.88.
- The board granted permission to purchase HD Supply Waterworks for InfraMap Software for GIS in the field mapping in the amount of $19,500.
- The City of Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department pulled the Girls Night Out Event contract. Contracts were approved for the parks department with Randy Martin for $195 to provide a caricature artist for the family carnival from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7 in Central Park; and with Kenneth Ernsberger for $200 to supply balloon art for the family carnival.
- The board approved for the parks department contract for Broadcast Music Industry in the amount of $335.
- The parks department and plan department were granted approval for the installation of a nine hole disc golf course at Lucerne Park.
- Granted permission for the payment of $197,853.75 to the contractor of Niblock Excavating for the East Market Street improvements.
- A payment was approved with A&Z Engineering for the Husky Trail Project at a cost of $6,983.75.
- A contract was approved with SRKM Architecture for schematic site and building plans with preliminary HVAC and electrical plans for the old city hall building. The plan is to utilize the old building as an incubator for businesses.
- The Oak and Alley Encroachment agreement was tabled for the next meeting.
- A 60-month lease of two postage meters and maintenance was approved with Pitney Bowes Global Financial Services for $577.92 for the police department and another lease for $138.89 for the clerk’s office.
- Approved the Warsaw Community Development Corporation Facade and Alleyway Improvement Matching Grant Program agreement for the budgeted amount of $35,000.
- Approved the increase in payroll for one city employee and the approval to hire and replace two positions.
- Approved travel requests for three city employees to attend conferences and training sessions.
