Area Netters Earn All-State Accolades
The area high school girls tennis scene is well represented on the All-State honors list recently released by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association.
The honorable mention list for the 2015 team includes Liza Lewis of Warsaw. The freshman No. 1 singles player helped coach Rick Orban’s team win a sectional title this spring.
Also named to the honorable mention list were the Triton quartet of singles players Kaelyn Mason, a senior, and junior Shayla May, along with the top doubles team of senior Kylie Mason and freshman Kolbie Mason from coach Al Peckham’s Trojan squad.
Fairfield star Emily Mast, who led her team to a State Finals appearance earlier this month, earned first-team All-State honors. The junior No. 1 singles player helped the Falcons reach the State Finals post an 18-2 mark with sectional, regional and semistate titles.
Also tabbed for first-team honors were the Elkhart Memorial doubles team of senior Corinn Whittaker and Taelor Grose, along with the Penn doubles duo of senior Lauren McCarty and junior Emma Moon.
Area singles players named to the second-team included Concord senior Jenna Landis, Elkhart Memorial sophomore Krystal Grubb and Penn senior Haylei Nelson. Doubles teams tabbed second-team included Concord seniors Holyn Eldridge and Mandy Meserve and Plymouth seniors Haley Harrett and Libbie Portteus.
The honorable mention list for singles players also included senior Lauren Streit and freshman Morgan Mast of Fairfield, junior Sydney Wysong of NorthWood, sophomore Tayla Brown of Penn and senior Jessica Stillson and sophomores Lanae Singleton and Erin Hunter of Plymouth. Named honorable mention All-State in doubles were senior Tori Schwartz and freshman Kennedy Wiens of NorthWood, junior Emma Baker and sophomore Allya Brelick of Penn and sophomore Kendall Dreibelbis and freshman McKenzie Scheetz of Plymouth.
