FORT WAYNE – The TinCaps shut out the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 2-0, on Monday night at Parkview Field. The win was Fort Wayne’s seventh in a row at home.
Thomas Dorminy (W, 6-5) threw a career-high seven innings as he limited Bowling Green (2-3, 39-36) to four hits and a walk. The 23-year-old All-Star left-hander struck out five.
The TinCaps gave their starter a lead in the bottom of the fourth inning against Henry Centeno (L, 4-5). Shortstop Ruddy Giron reached base on an error by his counterpart, Cristian Toribio, and then stole second base and made it to third on a throwing error by the catcher Nick Ciuffo. Right fielder Nick Torres, also an All-Star, drove Giron home with his Midwest League-leading 25th double of the season. Two batters later, left fielder Franchy Cordero plated Torres with an RBI single.
Dorminy handed the ball off to reliever Colby Blueberg (S, 10) in the eighth for a two-out save.
