‘Top Gun 2’ Confirmed, Tom Cruise On Board For Major Role
A “Top Gun 2” movie has been in development for nearly five years, and fans will be happy to know that the project has been confirmed by Skydance CEO David Ellison and CCO Dana Goldberg at a conference in Berlin June 26.
During a group interview at press day for “Terminator Genisys,” Ellison and Goldberg were asked about the status of “Top Gun 2” and what could be expected from the film. They stated that it is currently being written by Justin Marks, writer of “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.”
“Justin Marks has a phenomenal take to really update the world for what fighter pilots in the Navy has turned into today,” said Ellison. “It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters. It’s really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what the culture is today.”
Ellison also confirmed that Tom Cruise will have a starring role in the film.
“There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie and there is no ‘Top Gun’ without Maverick,” stated Ellison. “And it’s going to be Maverick playing Maverick.”
The movie is planned to be in 3D and IMAX. No beginning date has been set for filming yet, as Ellison said the script is still in development.
“We are very, very hopeful that we get to make the movie very soon,” said Ellison.
