Hisner Named North All-Star Head Coach
SOUTH WHITLEY – The rosters for the annual Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association North-South All-Star Series were announced and Whitko head coach Erik Hisner was named as the head coach for the North squad.
“It has a great history,” Hisner said of the game. “Many MLB players and Hall of Fame coaches have participated in the IHSBCA North-South Baseball Series. For those involved it means a great deal. It’s very humbling because you are selected by your peers. I was fortunate enough to participate in the series as a player in 2001, and outside of our team accomplishments at Bellmont, it was the highlight of my high school athletic career. And now to have the opportunity to once again be involved in this prestigious event means a great deal to myself, my family, and our program.”
Hisner has seen his Whitko squad post three-consecutive 20-win seasons and has enjoyed success in the Three Rivers Conference during that time as well.
“It really says a lot about our program at Whitko,” Hisner stated. “It says a lot about the great people I’ve had the opportunity to work with. From our dedicated players and coaches, to our supportive administration and parents, this honor is for all of those involved with Whitko Baseball. We’ve never had a player or coach selected to participate in the series, so I am extremely grateful for the opportunity, and very proud to represent Wildcat nation in Terre Haute.
Hisner will be joined be Whitley County peers Mark Grove (Churubusco head coach) and Terry McManama (Churubusco assistant) as well as Churubusco pitcher Devin Peters.
Other area players include Jake Vernon (Concord), Sam Troyer (Northridge), Joey Lange (South Bend Clay), Dillon Diehm (Garrett), Avondre Harris (Mishawaka), Ryan Bettcher (LaVille), Nick Floyd (Jimtown) and Robbie Cole (Southwood). Southwood head coach Kris Holtzleiter will also join Hisner’s staff.
The series will be played July 9-11 in Terre Haute on the campus of Indiana State University at Bob Warn Field.
