Kosciusko County Fair Grandstand Acts Take The Stage
Grandstand entertainment is one of the largest events at the Kosciusko County Community Fair. This year, the 99th annual fair will host three different musicians on stage, including inspirational singer Kali Rose, rising country star Levi Riggs and the popular oldies band, Spike and the Bulldogs.
Rose takes the stage 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 12. Her inspirational music pushed her to the top of the charts with three number-one songs from her last CD, “Brand New Day,” all of which were nominated as Inspirational Country Music’s Song of the Year.
The charting success of this CD, along with her powerful concerts, helped pave the way for the honor of being the ICMA’s Female Vocalist of the Year in 2011, Entertainer of the Year in 2013 and Vocal Duo Performance of the Year in 2014.
Riggs will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, as Kosciusko County Community Fair’s headlining act. Riggs is returning for his second year with the Kosciusko County Fair. His country music has taken him all over the United States, and he also has opened for major acts all year long, some of which include The Band Perry, Jason Aldean, Travis Tritt, Easton Corbin, Colt Ford, Justin Moore, Blackhawk, Jo Dee Messina and Brett Eldredge.
Riggs is an Indiana local who worked on his family’s dairy farm. He created his own record label, named after the farm, and has produced three albums. His latest hit, “I’m Good,” has hit the Billboard Top 40.
At 7 p.m. Friday, July 17, Spike and the Bulldogs will fill the Kosciusko County grandstand with the tunes of the oldies. The six-man band covers a variety of music from the specific period between 1955 and 1965, like Buddy Holly, The Beach Boys, Bill Haley, The Dave Clark Five, The Righteous Brothers and Bobby Darin.
The group is well known for its Spike and the Bulldogs Cruise, taking place for 17 years now. This cruise navigates the waters of the Caribbean and takes place on a major cruise ship, with Spike and the Bulldogs as the feature attraction. The group’s cruise books between 200 and 300 people for each event.
The band is most proud of their accomplishments during their travels, including opening for the Beach Boys and playing at a private party for John Mellencamp.
On Monday, July 13, the grandstand will host the IPRA World Championship Rodeo beginning at 7:30 p.m. and KOI Drag Racing Thursday, July 16.
At 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, the grandstand will be filled with the sounds of crunching metal and the smell of gas during the third annual Shaggy Memorial Demolition Derby. Saturday entertainment will be the tractor and trailer pulls, beginning at 6 p.m., with gates open at 4 p.m.
Event tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children. Children 5 and under are admitted free.
Seating for each event will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets for grandstand acts can be purchased online at www.kcfair.com or by calling the fair office at (574) 269-1823.
