Now that July is here and we have had a ton of rain, how is your vegetable garden? If it survived flooding, then you probably have started picking delicious produce to enjoy. What kind of plans do you have for all your bounty? First off, I would like to suggest that you share with the local shelters and to the many collection sites for those in need.
Here at your Warsaw Community Public Library, we would like to also suggest you stop in and peruse our vast collection of cookbooks. I picked three cookbooks to showcase for this short article, and the recipes look fantastic.
From “Gooseberry Patch Grilling and Campfire Cooking,” a couple of recipes pop out as tantalizing to my taste buds. The first is tomato and sweet corn salad? This recipe uses fresh corn, Roma tomatoes, red onion, cilantro, olive oil, and red wine vinegar to produce a fresh garden dish with minimal work.
How about fresh watermelon Salad? This recipe utilizes Boston Bibb lettuce, cucumbers, red onion, watermelon cubes, raspberry vinaigrette salad dressing, mayo and poppy seed. This sounds so refreshing.
In the book “Project Garden,” enjoy roasted corn and squash. This simple recipe includes fresh corn, squash, minced garlic, and fresh parsley. Put these all together, wrap in tin foil and grill for 15-20 minutes.
And finally from “Putting up More,” let’s make red tomato marmalade. This recipe features marmalade made with tomatoes, an orange and a lemon, cinnamon, allspice, and a few other simple ingredients to make marmalade you can give away as gifts.
If any of these sound tasty, and they all do, then stop at the Warsaw Community Public Library and check out our many, many cookbooks. I would plan to stay awhile because our selections span many shelves, and picking out just a few books will be quite a task.
