Video Captures Humpback Whale Appearing To Spout Rainbow
A drone recording video captured footage of a humpback whale appearing to spray a rainbow from its blowhole off the coast of Newport Beach, California, July 5. The video was taken by photography and wildlife naturalist Mark Girardeau of Orange county, which his friend Royce Hutain drove the boat.
“It’s really not that rare to see but the way it appears to come out of the blowhole and the angle of the shot make it extra special,” said Hutain in an email. “Also this is clearly a magic whale with special powers.”
Girardeau filmed the footage with an aerial camera while another videographer, Jason Anderson, flew a second drone.
“We saw many rainbows that day from whales,” said Hutain. “It all depends on what side we were viewing the whales from and where the sun was.”
According to Girardeau’s Instagram page, the footage captured in the video is unedited, straight from the camera.
“Humpback whale producing a rainbow,” wrote Girardeau. “I’d say that’s better than a pot of gold.”
