Esther A. Loe
Esther A. Loe, 89, a resident of South Whitley, died at 9:55 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, where she was admitted earlier in the day.
She was born May 14, 1926, in Lake Leelanau, Mich., a daughter of Otto and Cecelia (Walters) Schaub. Her formative years were spent in Lake Leelanau where she completed grade school. The family then moved to Detroit where she worked as housekeeper in a rectory of a Catholic Parrish.
She moved to Fort Wayne and became a housekeeper for the Rea family of Rea Magnet Wire. She attended Ravenscroft Beauty College and became a beautician. She worked a couple of years for Wayne Knitting Mills, Fort Wayne, before becoming a full-time homemaker.
On June 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Raymond A. “Bud” Loe. They made their home in Fort Wayne. The couple then moved to Columbia City and in 1966, South Whitley.
She was a member of St Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary, South Whitley and American Legion Post 98 auxiliary, Columbia City.
Surviving relatives include her husband: Raymond “Bud”; and a daughter: Theresa (James) Calvin, Hicksville, Ohio; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Hilda Pepelinski, Lake Leelanau, Mich.; Edith (Marvin) Schaub, Suttons Bay, Mich.; and Ruth (John) Gauthier, Traverse City, Mich.
She was preceded in death by two sons: Dean and Dale Loe; a daughter: Rebecca Loe; two sisters: Elizabeth Versnyder; Margret Couturier; and two brothers: William and Thomas Schaub
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at St Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City. The burial will be in Nolt Cemetery. The visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
