JoAnn (Shively) Shirk Bruland
JoAnn (Shively) Shirk Bruland, 81, residing in South Bend, Indiana passed away at 10:53 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2015, at her home.
JoAnn was born on May 13, 1934 in Nappanee, to the late Warren A. Shively and Leona (Harter) Shively, and has lived in the South Bend area since 1998. She is a graduate of Nappanee High School (where she formed several lifelong friendships) and attended college at Indiana University, Bloomington. She spent eleven happy years at Kohl’s where she formed many wonderful friendships with her co-workers. She was a Past Member of the Order of Eastern Star of Indiana – Nappanee and attended Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, South Bend.
On Aug. 25, 1955 in Nappanee, JoAnn was united in marriage to Milton Shirk, who preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1997. Milton and JoAnn were blessed with three children, Amy, Mitch, and Brooks . On Aug. 22, 1998 in South Bend, JoAnn married Hal Bruland, who also preceded her in death on July 18, 2013.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter Amy Shirk, South Bend; sons: Mitch Shirk, Mishawaka; Brooks (Angie) Shirk, Warsaw; stepsons: Mark Bruland, Santa Barbara, Calif.; and Barry Bruland, Sarasota, Fla.; grandaughters: Whitney; Taylor; Westley (Sean); Casey; and Jamelyn; and one step-grandchild: Alexis; and a great-grandchild due in August; two step-great grandchildren; sister: Pegge (Tom) Downs, Scottsdale, Ariz.; nephew: Patrick McGrann, Colorado; and niece: Lissie (Ronnie) Villanueva, Arizona.
Visitation and a memorial service for JoAnn Bruland will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, South Bend. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. Pastor Pat Sommers will be officiating.
