Mentone Travel Teams Earn State Spots
MENTONE – A summer of success for the travel league teams at the Mentone Youth League continued this weekend.
A trio of teams from the league earned berths in the State Finals of the Town and Country Tournament.
The 8U Mudhens baseball team earned a spot at State. The squad will play in the semistate championship game tonight versus Plymouth at 6 p.m. in Denver.
The 10U Mudhens team also qualified for State. That team is set to also play for a semistate championship tonight versus North Miami at 6 p.m. in Plymouth.
The 12U Vikings girls’ softball team is also moving on to the State Finals. The Vikings placed fourth in the Districts to earn a spot at State. They will play in the State Finals starting on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rochester.
The 12U team includes Kayleena Agnew, Jerzey Conley, Ava Craig, Hannah Engstrand, Macy Kirchenstien, Riley Kaufman, Kayle Long, Erika Poyser, Kailey Rudd, Sadie Snapp and Tracy Smith.
Carolyn Kirchenstien is the head coach for the 12U Vikings. Jeff Snapp and Ryan Smith are the assistant coaches for the team.
Three other teams from the Mentone League closed out outstanding seasons in tourney play.
The 12U Mudhens lost in the semistate to Pioneer and Delphi, each by 1-0 final scores.
The 8U Vikings softball team finished fourth in the Town and Country Tournament.
The 10U Vikings softball squad placed seventh in the Town and Country Tournament.
