Milford Public Library news and events this week:
Teens Make Their Own Sundaes
Teens who have read at least 50 hours are invited to attend the ‘Make your own sundae’ party at noon Monday, Aug. 3, in the meeting room. You should have been given a ticket for the party when you reached the 50-hour goal. Celebrate the end of the summer reading club and your reading accomplishments with super sundaes. We hope to see you there.
Summer Reading Program Finale
This week is our summer reading program finale picnic. Every summer reading program participant who has read at least five hours has earned a ticket to the picnic. Grab your ticket, a beach towel, sunscreen and a chair to sit on the beach at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 5. We will serve food under the pavilion and give away some great door prizes. Ronald McDonald will make an appearance at 12:30 p.m. The last day to turn in hours is 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, so keep reading.
Afternoon Knitting Club
Knitting club meets from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, in the teen area of the library. Bring a knitting project and get help from experienced knitters. The knitting club meets the first and third Friday of every month. Come and learn how to knit or continue working on a current project.
Lego Crew
Lego crew is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. until noon Saturday, Aug. 8. On the second Saturday of each month, we get together and let our imaginations run wild. Lego crew meets in the library meeting room. We provide the Legos, and you provide your creativity and imagination. Call us if you have any questions at (574) 658-4312.
Back to School
Wawasee Community School Corporation students have one week left of summer. The 2015-2016 school year begins Tuesday, Aug. 11. Be sure to visit the library this week and get ready for that first day of school. We provide many ways for students of any age to get prepared for school. Our library has a wide collection of accelerated reader books that we mark clearly with reading level and points in the back. Ask anyone on the library staff for help to find the book you are searching for. We will help any reader find a good book to enjoy. Students can also use our computers for research assignments and to type reports. Printing for any school assignment is free.
We encourage tutors and students to meet at and use the library after school. We have tables in the teen section upstairs and one down in the children’s department to use. You don’t need a Milford Library card to use the library’s facilities or to review our material in-house; however, if you wish to check out any library material to do further research at home, you need a library card, which is free to students, age six and older, living in VanBuren and East Jefferson Townships, or attending Wawasee Community School Corporation. Please visit the library this month to ensure a good start to a great school year.
