Milford Town Council Members Unopposed In November
MILFORD — Milford’s Town Council will remain as is, at least until the 2018 elections.
In an email sent Monday, Aug. 3, Randy Girod, Kosciusko Republican Party chairman, informed Milford Town Clerk Joellen Free, “Milford will not need to hold a Republican Town Convention in August or a general election in November because none of the candidates are opposed for re-election and the filing deadline has now passed.”
The town council passed an ordinance at its 2014 year-end meeting to make the term length of any town council member elected in November 2015 three years, thus eliminating “off-year” elections in the hopes of reducing costs and potentially increasing voter participation. This may have been in factor in the lack of opposition.
Council President Bob Cockburn said he is “looking forward to another term” and encouraged other people to “become involved.”
The issues of “cleaning up the town and getting rid of unsafe houses” and meeting the building space needs of the departments will continue to be priorities, Cockburn stated. He also expressed hope water utilities “can become self-sufficient like the state wants it to be.”
The next Milford Town Council meeting will be at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 10, at Town Hall, 121 S. Main St. For more information call the town clerk’s office, (574) 658-4519.
