Pesticide Spray Affecting Livelihood in Kosciusko
Dear Editor,
This is in response to the Aug. 1 article in ‘the PAPER’ titled “Kosciusko’s aerial applicators stay busy following rains, flooding” concerning the aerial spraying of crops and the increase of it in this area. Not all of us are happy about this. Many people in this area have organic gardens, buy organic, eat pesticide free food, use organic pest control and bug spray, have allergies and breathing problems, etc. Our health and livelihood are hugely being affected.
Mr. Eby’s company may be increasing, but at many people’s expense; we are being affected negatively. The article made sounds as if the small amount of pesticides being used wasn’t harmful, and that isn’t true. This has caused me to stay inside to try to avoid as much as possible the spray they use.
We are west of Warsaw around the Atwood area and can see planes spraying around us all the time. I’m sure this isn’t the only area that is being affected. Recently the planes were spraying right over our house going back and forth at very low altitudes. This was not only scary but the spray was right over and around us once again, this time even closer.
I would hope that farmers and businesses would consider what they are doing to our environment and how it affects others. What we do does affect others and always has. This is summer and we all want to be outside and enjoy the fresh air and sun, but this spraying and increase of it is snuffing that out. And for those that don’t think it is a problem, think again. Your health is at an increased risk.
Sincerely,
Sandy Jackson
