TinCaps Claim Rubber Match At Burlington
BURLINGTON, Iowa – The TinCaps took the rubber match of their three-game series against the Burlington Bees, 5-4, at Community Field on Thursday night. Fort Wayne overcame a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the second inning and three in the fifth, and hung on from there.
Right fielder Edwin Moreno headlined the TinCaps’ offense as he was on base four times, going 3-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. His single in the second inning gave Fort Wayne a 2-1 lead against Austin Robichaux (L, 8-6).
In the fifth, Ruddy Giron added to the advantage with a two-out, two-run home run to left field — his ninth of the season, moving him into a tie with Trae Santos for the team lead. Later in the inning, Franchy Cordero singled to plate Franmil Reyes, who had tripled. Santos hit what appeared to be a two-run double down the left-field line only for it to be ruled a foul ball.
Burlington (Angels, 15-25, 50-59) got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth with two outs.
Thomas Dorminy (W, 9-7) went six innings with five strikeouts on the mound for the TinCaps.
Fort Wayne (Padres, 24-16, 56-52) relievers Taylor Cox, Aaron Cressley, and Yimmi Brasoban (S, 6) teamed for three innings in relief. The Bees made it a one-run game in the eighth when Trever Allen hit a two-out solo home run.
The TinCaps continue their Western Division road trip against the Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals, 27-13, 60-48) on Friday night at 8:00. Right-hander Dinelson Lamet (3-5, 3.58) is set to start for Fort Wayne against Matt Pearce (7-9, 2.94). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app.
