Wawasee Trumps Whitko, Concord
SYRACUSE – Wawasee received consistent play from its entire starting five in a dominant home girls golf win Thursday. The Lady Warriors had all five of its golfers in the 40s to post a 169, besting Concord’s 211 and Whitko’s 257 at Maxwelton Golf Club.
Mikala Mawhorter and Aubrey Schmeltz paced the field with 40s while Kylee Rostochak had a 43. Kamryn Foy and Madison Beaman each scored a 46 to round out the Wawasee scores, to which the team moves to 3-0 in dual matches this season.
Noted Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone, “We are getting five scores in the 40s, that is a good thing.”
Erika Shirley shot a 43 to lead Concord, but a trio of rounds in the 50s kept the Northern Lakes Conference foes well back of the pace in the non-conference matchup. Elise Boessler had a 54, Kindra Pressinell carded a 56 and Camryn Cramer turned in a 58 for the girls from Dunlap.
Whitko were led by the 52 from Holly Hathaway and Aurelia Slusher posted a 58. Alexys Rider finished at 65 and Mckayla Compton shot 82.
Wawasee will return to action Saturday at the Girls Fall Preview Invite at Prairie View Golf Course. Whitko is scheduled to host both North Miami and Triton Monday afternoon at Sycamore.
