Rare White Humpback Whale Sighted Near Australia
AUSTRALIA — A rare white humpback whale was captured on video off the east coast of Australia Monday, Aug. 10. There was some speculation over whether or not it was a whale named Migaloo, which has been seen numerous times in recent years.
Migaloo became world famous for being the only white whale in a group of whales numbering approximately 23,000 that regularly swim in the waters of the Pacific Ocean near Australia. However, the Sea World marine sciences director in Australia does not believe this whale to be Migaloo.
The whale has been dubbed “Son of Migaloo.” Experts say it appears smaller and younger than Migaloo. They believe it to be the another white whale that has been occasionally sighted off Australia’s east coast since 2011, which means there are now at least two of the rare creatures.
