Art In Action: Hazelett Exhibit Opens At Lakeland Art Gallery

In the three fields that are of most interest to me I jokingly call myself the three “A” person. This is because I dearly love animals, authoring and art.
In the field of art I have had the great privilege of getting to know many talented and creative people.
One of the most humble about her abilities is my friend Jan Hazelett. Rarely does she enter a competition of any kind in which she is not given some type of award. Hazelett has a full-time job in a busy office in Warsaw doing dental hygiene, but manages, in her spare time, to create works of art that are breathtaking. I strongly encourage you to take the short drive to the Lakeland Art Gallery on Main Street, SR 13, in downtown Pierceton where art galleries and antique shops offer a wonderful opportunity to browse.
For the rest of the month of August, if you take that drive from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, you will have a chance to see the remarkable work by Hazelett.
Hazelett was originally from the Fort Wayne area but now resides in Whitley County near South Whitley with her husband Walt. They have two children and three grandchildren. Having held memberships in The Fort Wayne Artist’s Guild, The Indianapolis Art League and The Cincinnati Potter’s Group, along with the Lakeland Art Association, Hazelett was able to round out her largely self-taught art education.
While in school for her dental hygiene degree, she also took several elective art courses. In addition art workshops, classes with local artists and a passion to create have propelled her into the abilities that ooze out of her work today.
Hazelett’s first love is sculpture, but she also enjoys oil, watercolor, pencil and acrylic and shows excellence in all these mediums. Several of her pottery and sculpture works are on exhibit at the gallery along with many beautiful watercolors, oils and acrylics.
Hazelett operates out of her home studio she calls Sparrow’s Nest Studio and Clay Works.
Consider a trip to the LAA Gallery in Pierceton in the next three weeks. You will enjoy the work of Hazelett located on the left half of the gallery as you enter.
