Benefit For Winona Lake Trails
WINONA LAKE — The Kosciusko County Velo Cycling Club has two exciting upcoming events.
This Sunday, Aug. 16, come support the Northern Indiana Mountain Bike Series and the Kosciusko County Velo Mountain Bike Cross Country Race to benefit the Winona Lake Trails. The Indiana Mountain Bike Association builds and maintains mountain bike trails in the Michiana area.
The fundraising race series helps support each of the local, northern Indiana mountain bike trails. The Aug. 16 race benefits the Winona Lake trails.
The mountain bike trail will be shortened to about seven miles per lap and is a cross country format. Riders will be in groups by class with the first to cross the finish line determined as the winner.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. on race day at Winona or sign up online and save. Pre-registration is open until 5 p.m. Saturday evening.
Race times are: 9 a.m. for experts; 11 a.m. for sports; 11 a.m. for beginners and a kids run. Each group will have different criteria ranging from laps totaling two miles to 28 miles. The cost is $25 pre-registration for NIMBA or KCV members, or $30 the day of the race. For non-members the fee is $35 pre-registration or $40 the day of the race.
Second Event
The Run + Walk for Ride + Walk will be Aug. 22. Join others at the Winona Lake Trails for a fun day of trail running and mountain bike racing all for a great cause. Choose from the 5/10k trail run in the morning and/or the 6/12 hour mountain bike endurance race in the afternoon.
The 5/10K trail run begins at 9 a.m. with the Six and 12 hours of Winona Mountainbike solo/team relay race starting at noon.
The event will start from the event field in the Old Chicago Boys Club Trails between Stone Camp and the Lake City Greenway. The mountain bike race will start at the Winona Lake Trails, 410 Boys City Drive, Winona Lake.
Pre-registration fee for the trail run is $25, $30 for on-site registration, Check-in and registration will be from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Final staging will take place at 8:55 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start of all divisions. There is an 11 a.m. finish time followed by awards. There are three divisions for each the 5K and 10K.
The six-to 12-hour Winona MTB Race will have three six hour divisions and five 12-hour divisions. The entry fee is $70 until Aug. 18 and $75 for on-site registration. Check-in and registration will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. with a rider’s meeting at 11:45 a.m. To pre-register and more details click here.
Gather up your team, or ride solo, while enjoying food, music, a day with friends (old and new), cold beer and a ton of fun for the right reason.
Proceeds will benefit local trails, including the Ride + Walk Warsaw + Winona Lake Initiative. Be sure to bring a costume and invite your friends.
